Improved Thermal Resistance and High Impact Toughness
PLA Pro filament is a material based on modified PLA. By orienting the chemical composition of the material to achieve satisfactory properties required for additively manufactured objects, the advantages of PLA and ABS have been successfully combined. It is therefore possible to achieve high impact resistance of printed parts with high tensile strength and substantial stiffness, which is typical for PLA-based materials. The modified chemical composition has improved the material’s flowability, making the filament suitable for industrial use that requires good mechanical strength properties, high printing efficiency, and especially the possibility to increase print speed.
Annealing
This is a process during which the temperature is raised to improve the strength, thermal resistance, and ductility of the product. The temperature the model must reach is called the glass transition temperature. PLA Pro filament can be treated at high temperature using a heating chamber. After crystallization, it exhibits increased thermal resistance (up to 85"C) and almost double the resistance of standard ABS. Annealing can be used for parts with simple shapes where increased mechanical resistance and tensile strength are needed.
*Uneven heating can lead to unexpected deformation and suboptimal performance of printed parts. The usual annealing time for parts with a wall thickness of about 3.2 mm is approximately 20 minutes.*
Key Features:
- a good alternative to styrene-based materials
- extremely high impact resistance compared to classic PLA materials, impact resistance 50% higher than ABS
- high durability comparable to ABS
- increased process capacity thanks to the possibility of increased print speed (due to improved flowability)
- better interlayer adhesion allowing smoother side surfaces
Applications:
- functional prototyping
- tooling
- conceptual and demo prototypes of designed products and semi-finished products
- industrial design
- parts requiring high impact strength
